Play-Based Learning

Sunshine Preschool was founded by Jurine (Hall) Biers, Darlene Fish, and Sally Tuller, with Deborah Pucillo serving as the school’s first director and teacher, helping bring their shared vision for a nurturing, community-centered preschool to life.

At Sunshine School, we recognize that children are natural learners — curious, capable, and eager to explore. Our teachers nurture that curiosity by planning daily, developmentally appropriate activities centered around engaging monthly themes.

Classrooms are thoughtfully arranged into inviting learning centers for blocks, dramatic play, art, books, music, and more. These hands-on experiences encourage children to use all their senses as they create, imagine, and discover.

Through play and interaction, children strengthen problem-solving, communication, self-control, independence, and physical coordination — all essential skills for lifelong learning and success.

Our curriculum blends both child-directed and teacher-guided activities, allowing each child to grow at their own pace and follow their individual interests. Beyond the classroom, field trips offer opportunities to extend learning into the wider world.

Outdoor play is a vital part of every day at Sunshine School. Our playground is designed to challenge and support children as they build confidence and strengthen their gross motor skills in a fun, engaging environment.

Our mission is to nurture children and support families through a loving, faith-based environment rooted in acceptance, kindness, and holistic growth.

We honor each child as an individual, celebrating their strengths, curiosities, and natural rhythms. We believe play is the foundation of meaningful learning, inviting children to discover, experiment, and build relationships at their own pace. Our dedicated teachers cultivate a nurturing, inclusive, and non-competitive environment where children gain confidence, develop essential skills, and grow into joyful, capable learners.

In every person there is a sun. Just let them shine.
